Gardens
Untitled Document
When
owners Jorja and Michael Lynn bought Walter Place and began restoration, they
found a dusty landscaping plan which had been stored in the attic.
They were
the drawings of Theodore Link who had been commissioned in 1903, not only to
redesign and restore the houses of the estate, but also to create a design
for gardens that would span the 15 acres between the Walter house and the guest
cottages.
It
was Oscar Johnson, Col.. Walter’s son-in-law, who dreamed to build
a botanical garden to be known as Johnson Park. However, he died in 1916 before
the plans could be fully carried out.
Michael Lynn decided to complete the plans 100 years later and those plans are
becoming a reality today.
Creating the gardens is a three-phase process to carry out the plan’s vision
for natural trails, fish ponds, waterfalls and driving paths.
